What's the mission?
Primal Green supports independent cultural organizations and practitioners in implementing sustainable practices by gathering and offering resources within the Berlin, German, and EU cultural sectors. Primal Green promotes self-regulation from within the arts through environmental literacy. The platform offers guides for individuals and organizations as well as approaches to inclusivity and diversity. We believe that sustainability should be accessible for all and seek to empower the community to take action.
From all sides, I’m hearing that I need to become more sustainable, inclusive, and adaptable, but I’m rarely given practical information, especially for culture projects like mine. So in 2019, I began research, and while there are great organizations in the world, the information for independent projects Berlin and Germany is lacking. Moreover, the advice offered to museums or larger institutions usually doesn’t apply to those with few resources, no fixed office, and temporary teams. Primal Green is the early result of that research. It gathers resources for and from cultural practitioners like me – independent, community-minded, and seeking change. The goal is to assemble and produce practical information that empowers artists, organizations, and individuals to become more sustainable in their production, transportation, promotion, travel, diversity and inclusion practices, and beyond. This is very much a project of sharing, collaboration, and community. Please take the resources you see here – use them, distribute them, and send a few back so I can do the same. And get in touch to let me know what’s missing, what you’d like to know, or just to say hi. Looking forward, Alicia |
Realization of the Platform
This website is designed to be as sustainable as possible within the scope of the project. It is hosted on uberspace.de, a fair and environmentally conscious web host based in Mainz, Germany. The website uses a dark background color, one-color images, and system fonts to keep the amount of data loaded as low and thus the website as energy efficient as possible.
We welcome feedback on how we can make this website even more sustainable. Thank you!
